AURA AI is an AI-supported project-based learning experience designed to move young learners from story-based engagement to scientific inquiry, evidence evaluation, and digital creation. Built around The Story of the Little Mole Who Knew It Was None of His Business, the experience transforms a familiar story into an interdisciplinary investigation in which students become “Poop Detectives” and explore why different animals have different droppings.

I independently designed the interactive learning website and the accompanying instructional experience, including differentiated learning pathways, interactive activities, AI-supported inquiry, and assessment components. The prototype is designed for different learner levels, with separate pathways for foundational and more advanced learners.

Design Challenge

Designing for the Learner

How might AI support inquiry without replacing students’ thinking?

The central design challenge was to transform AI from an answer-generating tool into a scaffold for questioning, evidence collection, verification, and creation.

I therefore designed the learning experience so that students must actively investigate, evaluate information, and transform what they discover into a meaningful digital artifact.

The learning goals remain consistent; what changes is the modality, complexity, and level of scaffolding.

I designed two differentiated pathways around learners’ developmental, linguistic, and digital capabilities.

Foundational Advanced
Input Audio + Visual Text + Multimedia
AI Interaction Guided Questions Structured Inquiry
Evidence Drawing + Clue Cards Data + Information Synthesis
Creation Visual Archive Science Website
Autonomy High Scaffolding Greater Independence

Learning Journey

The learning experience follows four interconnected stages: Perception, Decision, Action, and Internalization. Students progress from story-based engagement to AI-supported inquiry, digital creation, and reflection, with learning activities and scaffolding adapted to different age groups.

Perception

01 Notice & Explore

Interactive picture-book reading, vocabulary practice, and multimodal activities help students build curiosity and foundational understanding.

Reading responses and interactive activity records.

Action

03 Create & Express

Students organize their findings into digital artifacts. Younger learners receive more structured creation support, while older learners use AI prompts to design and refine personalized websites.

Student-created websites and visual research artifacts.

Decision

02 Ask & Investigate

Students choose an animal to investigate, ask questions through AI-supported dialogue, and collect relevant information.

Inquiry records, clue cards, and documented findings.

Internalization

04 Reflect & Apply

Students showcase their work, participate in evaluation, document their reflections, and explore extension activities. Older learners also help develop assessment criteria.

Evaluation rubrics, reflection records, and final presentations.

External Review & Design Iteration

       External review session

AURA AI is currently undergoing external testing and commercial pilot implementation. Through external review sessions, I gathered feedback on how the platform could better support younger learners' autonomy, multimodal engagement, and reflection.

**My Role :**Presented the prototype, collected feedback, and translated recommendations into design revisions. **Key Outcome :**Three priorities emerged with learner autonomy, multimodal scaffolding, and reflective learning.
